This standard outlines the criteria for cold-rolled soft magnetic iron strips, primarily employed in electromagnetic applications such as relay yokes, armatures, and similar components in electrical machinery and apparatus.

The standard mandates compliance with all general requirements for supplying cold-rolled soft magnetic iron strips. Strips can be provided in coils or straight lengths, based on mutual agreement between the purchaser and the manufacturer.

The material's chemical composition must adhere to the standard. It should possess uniform composition, microstructure, and macrostructure, devoid of physical defects or flaws internally and externally. Upon receipt, the strips must be smooth, flat, and free from waviness, bowing, bending, or buckling. Coiled material should be uniformly treated, ensuring consistent hardness and characteristics, facilitating smooth uncoiling without waviness.

TESTS

The subsequent test must be conducted for Soft Magnetic Iron Strips.

MARKING

Every strip should undergo treatment on both sides with a non-hardening rust-preventive oil, easily removable with an aqueous alkali solution. Bundles or packages of strips, along with coils, must include tags indicating the manufacturer's name and trademark, quality/grade, product dimensions, cast or identification mark, net and gross weights, and dispatch date. Additionally, the standard mark (ISI Mark) can be applied to the material.

To utilize the standard mark (ISI Mark), the manufacturer is required to acquire a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards. This license is granted after a thorough assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, production processes, and quality control and testing capabilities during an on-site visit to the manufacturing premises.
