In today's competitive landscape, maintaining market presence without a certified, high-quality product can be challenging. Obtaining a BIS license may also be essential for selling products in the Indian market. To achieve BIS certification and ensure product quality, manufacturers must adhere to the specified Indian standards.
Let's delve deeper into at IS 1180 (Part 1):2014 for outdoor type oil immersed distribution transformers.
This standard outlines the specifications and examinations for outdoor distribution transformers with ratings up to 2500 kVA, designed for use on systems with nominal voltages up to 33 KV. These transformers are oil-immersed, naturally air-cooled, and double-wound, catering to three-phase configurations.
This standard aims to address technical provisions concerning transformers. Part 2 of this standard specifies the requirements for outdoor distribution transformers of the sealed type, featuring comparable voltage and kVA ratings.
The primary winding should be delta-connected, while the secondary winding should be star-connected to achieve a positive phase displacement of 30 degrees from the primary to secondary vectors of the same phase. Transformer tanks must possess sufficient strength to endure the pressure within the tank. The transformer oil must adhere to the specifications outlined in this standard.
The transformer should be equipped with three high voltage and four low voltage outdoor bushings, each with suitable voltage and current ratings. It must endure power frequency and impulse test voltages appropriate for the voltage class.
The company must declare the transformer ratings they aim to include under the license. The Bureau of Indian Standards (BO) will ensure that all variants covered by the license undergo rotational testing during its operation.
The subsequent test must be conducted for Oil immersed distribution transformers.

Every container should display the manufacturer's name or trademark along with the size and material type. The ISI mark must be affixed to the material, ensuring compliance with all specification requirements. Manufacturers are required to acquire a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to utilize the standard mark (ISI Mark). This license is granted following a thorough assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control measures, testing capabilities, and manufacturing processes.
Acquiring a BIS license requires a comprehensive review of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control abilities, testing resources, and production procedures. This thorough assessment guarantees that products not only adhere to regulations but also prioritize consumer safety and reliability.
