In today's competitive landscape, maintaining market presence without a certified, high-quality product can be challenging. Obtaining a BIS license may also be essential for selling products in the Indian market. To achieve BIS certification and ensure product quality, manufacturers must adhere to the specified Indian standards.
Lets delve deeper into IS 15909:2011 for hubless centrifugally cast iron pipes, fittings, and accessories.
IS 15905:2011 encompasses hubless centrifugally cast (spun) iron pipes, fittings, and accessories (spigot series).
After approval by the Pig Iron and Cast Iron Sectional Committee, the Bureau of Indian Standards adopted this Indian Standard, following its finalization by the Metallurgical Engineering Division Council.
This standard outlines the specifications for hubless centrifugally cast iron pipes used for soil, waste, ventilation, and rainwater purposes, along with fittings and accessories, including joints.
The pipes and fittings described in this standard are intended for non-pressure applications, such as gravity drainage. Typically, fittings and accessories covered by this standard are manufactured through sand casting. The standard mandates that cast iron pipes, fittings, and accessories must be hubless (spigot type) and devoid of sockets. Nominal sizes DN of pipes and fittings are specified as 50, 75, 100, 150, and 200 mm. Cast iron used in their manufacturing must adhere to the FG 150 grade, as per IS 210 specifications. Pipes, fittings, and accessories must undergo appropriate stripping procedures to prevent warping or shrinking defects.
The subsequent test must be conducted for Centrifugally Cast Iron Pressure Pipes
Crush test on pipe rings
Hammer test
Hydrostatic Test
Every pipe, fitting, and accessory should bear permanent and distinct markings including the manufacturer's name, nominal diameter, last two digits of the manufacturing year, and any other specified mark required by the purchaser, in accordance with the specified standard.
Pipes, fittings, and accessories may bear the Standard Mark (ISI Mark). Manufacturers are required to obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to utilize the standard mark (ISI Mark). This license is granted following an evaluation of manufacturing infrastructure, production processes, and quality control and testing capabilities during an inspection of the manufacturing premises.
Acquiring a BIS license requires a comprehensive review of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control abilities, testing resources, and production procedures. This thorough assessment guarantees that products not only adhere to regulations but also prioritize consumer safety and reliability.
