In today's competitive landscape, maintaining market presence without a certified, high-quality product can be challenging. Obtaining a BIS license may also be essential for selling products in the Indian market. To achieve BIS certification and ensure product quality, manufacturers must adhere to the specified Indian standards.
Let's delve deeper into at IS 7226:1974 for cold rolled medium, high carbon and low alloy steel strip.
This standard outlines the criteria for cold-rolled medium, high carbon, and low alloy steel strips, with a thickness not exceeding 3 mm and a width up to 330 mm, designed for general engineering purposes.
IS 1387:1967 lays out the overall provisions for providing cold-rolled medium, high carbon, and low alloy steel strips. These strips should be supplied in an annealed state or annealed and re-rolled. Delivery of cold-rolled steel strips is in coil form.
Strips should be crafted from steel generated via an open hearth, electric furnace, basic oxygen, or duplex process, or a blend thereof. Prior consultation with the purchaser is necessary if an alternative manufacturing process is employed. In cases where the basic oxygen process is utilized, nitrogen content must not surpass 0.007 percent.
The cold-rolled steel strip surface should be clear of any detrimental defects such as scales, rust, blisters, laminations, pitting, cracked edges, and the like. Additionally, these strips are expected to feature a bright finish.
The subsequent test must be conducted for Steel Strip.

Cold-rolled steel strips must be adequately packaged to prevent rusting and damage during transportation. Each coil of strip should be clearly marked with the manufacturer's name or trademark, grade, size, and cast number, or any other identifying mark enabling traceability to the originating cast. Optionally, the ISI Certification Mark can be applied to the material. Manufacturers are required to obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to utilize the standard mark (ISI Mark). This license is granted following a successful evaluation of manufacturing infrastructure, production processes, quality control, and testing capabilities, conducted during a visit to the manufacturing premises.
Acquiring a BIS license requires a comprehensive review of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control abilities, testing resources, and production procedures. This thorough assessment guarantees that products not only adhere to regulations but also prioritize consumer safety and reliability.
